Leighton Buzzard 1s vs Luton 1s

Leighton travelled to Luton on the back of a good pre-season game against Berkhamstead ready to develop on the hard work put in so far. On a sunny day the pace was set by both teams with quick movement testing out the midfield and defence. Solid performances from Alex White, Jack Gorton and Gordon Browne stopping the Luton attack allowing play to be spread around the pitch from the width of Dan Edwards and Oli Parren. A lot of play was fought in the midfield, but with rotation of players in the middle of the park allowed Leighton to counter and suite their style of play. Relentless runs from Matty Fry and Chris Marshall linking up with the distribution of Nick Marshall allowed Leighton to utilise the width again with Sam Gale and David Franklin to test the Luton defence. Half time and with both teams unable to score the game was all to play for. Carrying on from last week Leighton were able to up their game and put Luton on the back foot. A quick counter from Luton saw them score a quick goal from a deflected hit. Leighton kept their heads and took the fight back to Luton. Several counter attacks later Leighton almost leveled but hit the post after a great cross from Tristan Hardy. Further runs from Mark Stephenson to feed in Dan Lambert with a screaming shot to disable one of the oposition. In the final quarter of the game another great run from Leighton Matty Fry was able to deflect the ball past the keeper and to level the game. Great game by both sides and a good performance to build on in the pre-season albeit a temper tantrum moment by coach Ken Mounter. Mortgage Bureau Man of the Match is Alex White
