Leighton continued to search for a way to correct their recent form at home to Newbury & Thatcham.

Leighton continued to search for a way to correct their recent form at home to Newbury & Thatcham.

The game started quickly for Leighton in the opening minute a quick ball down the right from Ben Smith finding David Fry, Fry paced past a couple defensive challenges down the Newbury baseline and found Smith running in on goal who promptly placed the ball through the Newbury keepers legs.

Leighton were pressed back shortly afterwards as Newbury effectively employed a high press, Newbury's pressure seemed to have paid off but a disallowed goal saw Leighton hold the lead. Shortly after, quick play down the right again from Leighton on the counter gave Leighton a free hit outside the D, a training ground set piece worked perfectly for the Buzzard's Nick Marshall sneaking into the area unmarked sweeping home Leighton's 2nd thumping the ball into the far corner goalkeeper left with no chance. Leighton unfortunately couldn't hold their full advantage to the half time break 5 mins from time Newbury placing a drag flick into the top right hand corner. 2 - 1 at half time.

Newbury continued their dominance of possession after half time pressing the Leighton defence back Man of the Match Dan Lambert breaking down attacks alongside his defensive team mates. They couldn't holdout forever though and Newbury pulled the game level. Leighton only graced their oppositions half rarely during the second period, and Newbury were cranking up the pressure even with a man sidelined by a yellow card. Newbury continued to push and if not for Leighton keeper Jacob Bradding Leighton may well have been behind,

A last minute penalty corner was awarded, the original strike was saved by Bradding but with a follow up attempt Newbury crashed a ball in the Leighton goal which was met by huge celebrations from the away side and disappoint form the home team who maybe felt they had ridden their luck at times.

Final result LBHC 2 Newbury & Thatcham 3

Next up is an away trip to Abingdon 1's and Leighton will continue searching for their first win in 6 games.
