Leighton Buzzard Men's 1st v Abingdon Men's 1st

Leighton Buzzard traveled to take on Abingdon in a game that has always produced goals. Leighton were first to strike after a tight start to the game Mark Stephenson's Ball down the left was latched onto by David Fry who at full stretch crossed the ball in for the arriving Tommy Lakins who neatly touched the ball home, however Abingdon rallied and caught Leighton Buzzard on the break to draw level. The game was close all the way to the half time whistle with Leighton wasting chances and the Buzzard defence holding strong against numerous attempts on their goal. They couldn't hold hold a misplaced pass at the half way line saw Abingdon break through 2 on 1 with the Leighton Keeper Jacob Bradding, despite Bradding's best effort to force the Abingdon striker wide he still managed to find his way past the keeper into the Leighton goal, half time came with Leighton down 2-1 but were undeterred knowing that if they kept creating chances they still maintained a chance of a result.

In the second half the game once again was evenly poised. More chances went missing for Leighton and they were punished by Abingdon finding the net again 3-1, Abingdon were close to scoring again rounding the keeper and flicking the ball at the Leighton goal, Tristan Hardy picking the ball off the line in mid-air. Leighton pushed for the win, Man of the Match Tommy Lakins again running at the Abingdon back-line and quick one-two pass with Fry saw Lakins smash the ball home at the near post. It was Abingdon who finalised the scoring pouncing on a rebound off the keeper and placing it home to round off the scoring at 4-1.

Next week starts back to back visits from Sonning hockey club occupying two of the top spots in the league.
