Leighton Buzzard 1s vs Henley 2s

Following on from the win last week, Leighton faced top of the table Henley at fortress Vandyke.

Confidence was high and although Leighton lost the toss they were soon in control of the game and first on the score sheet with a well taken goal from Tristan Hardy. This boosted the Leighton side further and some great work from the midfield of Nick Marshall, Matthew Fry and Mark Stephenson saw Leighton extend the lead with Sam Gale slotting home. Henley upped their game helped by a shaky 15 minutes or so by Leighton. Henley managing to find the post and crossbar on a couple of occasions. This pressure lead to a number of penalty corners for the visitors one of which deflected into Dan Edwards on the post resulting in a penalty flick for Henley. Henley's player sent GK Alex White the wrong way so pulling it back to 2 - 1 and so it stayed until half time.

The second half saw Leighton return to a more confident game, some great linking play by Dan Lambert and Tommi Lakins managed to find Chris Marshall slapping the cross first time to make it 3 -1 Leighton. The away side continued to press hard trying to get themselves back into the game and if it wasn't for great defending by David Franklin, Olly Parren but mostly Mortgage Advice Bureau Man of the match Gordon Browne then they could have easily been back on the score sheet. As it was Leighton managed to see the game out and take the three points.

Next week sees the team travel away to Maidenhead where they'll be keen to continue their winning form.
