Leighton Buzzard 1s vs Marlow 3s

Leighton played hosts to Marlow this Saturday at Vandyke and were looking to get back to their winning ways and extend their unbeaten run to nine games.

From the first whistle Leighton started strongly and created a number of chances, the first falling to Dave Fry who on his third attempt was able to lift the ball into the net and put the Buzzards one up. It wasn't long before Leighton doubled their lead. Player of the Match Tristan Hardy expertly played the ball through the Marlow defence to find Tommi Lakins one on one with the visitors keeper, who then rounded the keeper and smashed the ball home. Leighton came close to adding another with Fry deflecting the ball high and narrowly missing the goal after Lakins expert cross from the half way line. From here Leighton struggled to find this form again and gifted Marlow their best chances which fortunately for the home side, Marlow's font line was unable to convert into goals.

Heading into the second half Leighton knew another goal would seal the game however sloppy passing in the midfield allowed the visitors their first real chances through a series of short corners and unfortunately for the traveling side these were kept out through Nick Marshall charging down the first strikes and Buzzard keeper Alex White making important saves. Poor tracking and marking allowed Marlow to claw a goal back and cause a tense last five minutes. Leighton centre backs Jack Gorton and Gordon Browne made some crunching tackles to keep Marlow out and the tireless running of Mark Stephenson helped to push LBHC further up the pitch. With the final whistle came a wave of relief for Leighton who now make it nine games unbeaten.

The Buzzards travel to Sonning next Saturday looking for another win heading into the Christmas break.
