Leighton Buzzard 1s vs Staines 3s

Saturday saw Leighton play host to bottom of the league Staines in what was to be a goal fest for the home side.

From the first whistle Leighton were able to gain control of the game and it wasn't long before David Fry opened his account, mopping up a rebound and putting the Buzzards one up. He soon doubled his tally, squeezing the ball between the post and the keeper. Next to get their name on the score sheet was Mark Stephenson who received a pin point cross from Mortgage Advice Bureau Man of the Match Tommi Lakins and smashed the ball home. Minutes later Stephenson doubled his tally in the same fashion this time receiving the ball from Tristan Hardy. Some great inter play between Sam Gale and Lakins gave Fry the opportunity to seal his hat trick, which he didn't let go to waste. Before the end of the half Leighton brought their total to six when Nick Marshall scored a low and hard Drag flick to the right of the Staines keeper.

To no surprise it was Leighton once again who put the pressure on the visitors in the second half and the tireless running of Hardy was repaid with a goal. With Leighton firmly in control the defence were able to push high and sit within the Staines half. Many more chances could have put the Buzzards in double figures but it was not to be. Hardy finished the game with a diving effort at the back post from another Lakins cross, giving Leighton their 8th and final goal.

This strong performance was needed from Leighton to increase their goal difference and prepare them for an important clash away at Henley next weekend.
