Leighton Buzzard 1s vs Maidenhead 2s

Looking to bounce back after a tough defeat to Henley last week, Leighton played host to Maidenhead at Vandyke.

Leighton start brightly and within the first ten seconds had the opening chance of the game but they were unable to capitalise on this. From here Leighton struggled to make any real chances and it was the visitors who had the majority of play. A stray ball into Leighton's D found an unmarked Maidenhead forward, whose first time strike beat Leighton keeper Alex White. As the half drew to a close Maidenhead doubled their lead with a well worked short corner.

During the break Leighton coach Ken Mounter was not shy about his feelings on the Buzzards first half performance and sent his team out to fight for the game. And fight they did.
Mortgage advice bureau Man of the Match Dan Edwards distributed the ball well up the right side of the pitch creating opportunities for Mark Stephenson and Tristan Hardy to penetrate the Maidenhead D. With most of the possession and attacking chances all Leighton needed was a goal. This came through Sam Gale clearing up a goal mouth scramble to put the home side on the score sheet. With the clock running down Leighton continued to put pressure on Maidenhead but were unable to convert this into an equalising goal. In the last minute of the game Leighton took a gamble and swapped their goal keeper for an outfield player to push for the final goal. Unfortunately a break down in play allowed Maidenhead to counter attack and add the final blow to a deflated Leighton side.
Leighton need to get back to their winning ways next week when they host Abingdon at Vandyke.
