Wet and miserable conditions reflect Leighton's first home game performance.

Leighton's first home game of the season saw them take on league newcomers, Amersham & Chalfont, who won their first game of the season with a convincing ten to nothing score-line. With this in mind Leighton knew they were going to have a tough day at the office.
From the first whistle, Leighton took possession of the game, moving the ball around the defence well. Within the first five minutes Amersham were down to ten men, after their left back had to leave the field with a hamstring injury putting him out of the rest of the game and giving Leighton a huge advantaged. It wasn't long before they used it. Some quick passing from the midfield of Mark Stephenson and Josh Farnfield were able to find utility-man, Dave Fry, on the baseline who played the ball across the goal. A diving effort from Josh Gale knocked the ball past the visitor's keeper and put the Buzzards in the lead.
From here the wheels came off Leighton's momentum. Being down a man Amersham were happy to let the hosts pass the ball around their backline, however rushed passes and poor decision making allowed the away team into the game. Long passes were not picked up by the Leighton midfield and defence and Leighton goal keeper, Dan Metcalfe, was called into action several times to keep Amersham at bay to the halftime whistle.
The second half saw Leighton slow to get going, and a weaving run by the Amersham forward saw him beat several Leighton players and put the ball into the Leighton goal. More missed passes and players losing the ball in contact meant possession was easily turned over and Amersham made the home side pay, taking their chances and putting themselves into the lead. Leighton had some sparks of creativity with Leighton Man of the Match Matt Franklin finding space behind the Amersham defence with aerial passes, unfortunately the Leighton forwards couldn't create anything meaningful from these. As the game was coming to a close Amersham were able to convert a short corner to seal the game.
Next weekend Leighton take on long-time rivals, Milton Keynes, away and will need to find some fighting spirit if they are going to take three points and bragging rights from the game.
