Leighton Buzzard mens' first team beat local rivals, Milton Keynes, convincingly 3-1.

Leighton travelled the short distance to Woughton on the Green to take on local rivals Milton Keynes. After last week's disappointing result Leighton were looking to grab all three points against an MK side who had yet to put any on the league table.
Leighton started well, moving the ball across the back with little resistance from the Milton Keynes front line. It wasn't long before Leighton had their first chance of the day with Mark Stephenson rattling the home-side's cross bar with a deflected effort. The Buzzards showed much more composure this week moving the ball with confidence around the defence of Dan Edwards, Matt Franklin, Will Jenkinson and Laurence Leech with this play leading to Leighton's opening goal. A quick ball down the flank found Jack Gorton who was able to play the ball across the face of the goal for Man of the Match Josh Gale to deflect the ball into the hosts goal and put LB on the score sheet. Some shaky play from the Leighton midfield allowed MK their first chance of the game when a loose pass was picked up by a Milton Keynes attacker forcing Leighton keeper Dan Metcalfe to spring into action. After this wake-up call the visitors found their composure and a skill full run and inter-link play between Gale and Gorton saw Gale find Tommi Lakins unmarked in the D who expertly placed the ball past the MK keeper for Leighton's second of the day. For the remainder of the half Leighton pushed their hosts hard, keeping them pinned back into their own half. A ball across the back was intercepted by Lakins and sent high into the D and on the bounce Lakins was able to smash the ball past the stationary Milton Keynes keeper and give Leighton a three goal cushion going into the half time break.
Leighton started the second half brightly and some quick play by Leighton's other Man of the Match Josh Farnfield, found Gale in the MK circle. As Gale picked up the ball and was looking to pull the trigger on his shot, an MK player brutally came through the back of him with no attempt to make the tackle and was lucky to only receive five minutes off the pitch and concede a short corner, rather than spending the rest of the game on the sidelines and penalty stroke it probably should have been. In the middle of the park Leighton bossed the MK midfield with Farnfield keeping the ball strong and laying passes off to the Leighton frontline. This became the theme of the rest of the half but fortunately for the home team, their guests were not able to replicate their shooting prowess of the first half. As the game came to a close Milton Keynes were rewarded a consolation goal when a mix up at a short corner was played past a bemused Metcalfe.
After the previous week's performance Leighton showed much more composure and fight on the field in a game that always has greater rewards to it than just the three points available. Next week Leighton are back to Vandyke playing hosts to Sonning at 12:30pm.
