Seven Goal Game Goes Against Leighton

Picking up from where they left last week's game, the visiting Leighton side were on the score sheet within the first minute of the game. After a strong attack down the right side of the pitch a free hit was won, which was quickly taken by Will Jenkinson, playing the ball to Nick Marshall who fired it into the Aylesbury D, finding Player of the Match Tommi Lakins. Using his first touch to beat the Aylesbury defender Lakins let off his shot to beat the home side's keeper and give the Buzzards an early lead. After this wake-up call Aylesbury started to pose a greater threat to the goal and eventually equalised from a short corner. As the half carried on both sides had their opportunities to take the lead, however the half ended all square.
The second half saw the hosts capitalise on some loose passes by Leighton and give themselves the lead for the first time in the game. Leighton battled hard to get back into the game and were rewarded with a short corner which they converted. Lakins slipping the ball to Marshall, who lifted the ball over the out-stretched Aylesbury keeper hitting the inside of the post and crossing the line to level the score. Patchy play from Leighton saw them struggle to get a real grasp of the game and a well worked short corner routine gave Aylesbury the lead for the second time. Once again Leighton picked up their pace and a mazy run from Lakins allowed him to play the ball to Mark Stephenson, whose shot came off the inside of the Aylesbury keeper's leg, but was cleaned up by Lakins giving him his second of the game and once again even the scores. A quick break by Aylesbury was rewarded with the match winning goal. As the Aylesbury forward's shot was taken Stephenson's on-coming stick to block the shot sent the ball curling high into the top right hand corner of the Leighton goal.
This was a disappointing result that Leighton will be looking to put behind them when they take on Tring at Vandyke next Saturday.
