Agony of a last minute equaliser results in Buzzard dropping two vital points

Leighton Buzzard were left to rue mussed chances as they only managed to pick up a point.

Leighton started well despite the questionable warm up in which captain Tim ‘pivot’ Bellamy was heard to have strained the word ‘boys’ at least 9 times to show his frustration. Fluid movement from the front line of Steve ‘the beast’ Fuller, Fraser ‘son of god’ Retford, Martin ‘Martin’ Bailey and the midfield linking with the wingbacks saw Leighton create openings and it wasn’t long before Matt ‘the bat surveyor’ Nash was played through on goal with just the keeper to beat. He beat the keeper and just had to roll it in an open goal. He missed. But he scored minutes later anyway.

Oppositional mistakes and some silky one-twos saw South Berks under constant pressure for the first 25 minutes. The home team began push forward towards the end of the half earning a few short corners but the score remained 1-0 at the break.

South Berks tweaked their formation at half time to try and curb Leighton’s movement and it had some effect. The second half saw more of a ding-dong battle as both teams pushed for the next goal with Leighton playing more on the break. Clear chances weren’t taken and it came back to bite Leighton on the buttock as South Berks equalised in the final minute from fluffed short corner.

An improvement on last week as the team adapt to the new system and encouraging things to take away. Still yet to concede from open play through strong defending from Dave ‘knee slide’ Wavish, Will ‘orange shirt’ Riley and Jim ‘the trucker’ Galloway in goal.

Other players include:
