Leighton dominate local rivals

The mighty yellows came out firing on all cylinders this week as they finally, and fully deservedly, took maximum points against rivals MK.

Like an athlete out of the blocks on the starters pistol, Leighton we on form from the starting whistle. Determination, fluid passing and fantastic movement paid off after just 10 minutes when skipper Dave Jackson got his first of the game. Before MK could recover, Leighton were straight back on them. From a set piece on the left in MK’s 25, Matthew Nash played the ball back to Oliver Parren who struck the ball cleanly into the D where Tim Bellamy took a lovely little touch to rattle the net again. 2 – 0 and full of confidence, Leighton didn’t stop there.

Just before Simon Childs could get a clean shot in on goal, an MK defender decided to take out his stick – the result was a flick which the skipper coolly stepped up and slotted home another. Leighton still pilling on the pressure and playing full of confidence cumulated with another goal by Stu Retford before the half time whistle.

Second half started very much the way the first had finished with Leighton still all over MK not giving them a change. Great passing and movement again gave Stu another chance on goal which he took putting the home side 5 up. GK Jim Galloway was very much a spectator for much of the game with the defensive trio of David Wavish, Marc Scott and Oliver Parren keeping MK locked out. However, when the umpire upgraded a foul in the LB 25 to a short corner, MK took their opportunity and managed to get one on the board when their shot deflected off Oliver Parren’s stick and took it out of Jim Galloways reach.

Not dejected by the own goal, LB once again got straight back into their opposition which through some more fantastic play gave David Jackson the perfect change to score his third and round the game off with a hat trick.

Man of the Match – Hat trick hero and jug buyer, David Jackson!
