Leighton Buzzard 2s 4-0 Wooton Wanderers 1s

Leighton looked to start strongly against a team above them in the league, following last week's setback against Aylesbury. Buzzard tried to pin the opposition back into their half and it wasn't long before the pressure told, with man of the match Chris Marshall driving to the byline and pulling the ball back to the advancing strikers. Tim Bellamy tried to deflect the cross in, but only found Wootton's keeper on form; however Dave Jackson was on hand to shovel the rebound in to make it 1-0. Wootton responded by trying to press Buzzard which left them susceptible to the counter attack. From one of these break aways the Mens 2s managed to double the lead when Ollie Parron broke up play and fed Bellamy who found David Hooker in the centre of the pitch whose measured pass found Jackson bearing down on goal who finished with aplomb by burying the ball into the roof of the net.

With the score 2-0 at half time, Buzzard knew that Wootton would come out strongly at the start of the second half. But with Gordon Browne, Hooker and the returning Dave Canty ensuring that the Wanderers' playmaker had little time on the ball, Buzzard managed to weather the storm.

Following a good run from Matt Nash, Bellamy managed to deflect a driven ball into the net to make it 3-0. The scoring was then completed when Dave Jackson deflected the ball between the goal-keepers legs, and managed to get his second hat trick of the season to make it a resounding 4-0 victory for Leighton. The Mens 2s will now look to build on this positive result next week away to Wallingford.
