Leighton continue good form to get them out of the danger zone with a 3-0 win

Leighton Buzzard Mens 2nd Team were looking to build on their positive result from last week when they made the short trip to play local rivals Milton Keynes. Leighton knew the importance of the game given the opposition had registered just one point all season. What followed in the first half was a scrappy affair with the pressure and unpredictable pitch seemingly getting to the players. What resulted was a number of misplaced passes with frustration building within the ranks. However as the half progressed Josh Wavish, Dave Wavish, Marc Scott and David Canty controlled the sporadic Milton Keynes attacks and confidence started to grow with Clive Warncken having a calming influence in midfield. Having reached half time 0-0, skipper Dave Jackson told the team to go out their and show their superior quality.

With Leighton now hustling the Milton Keynes players it was now the opposition who were making the errors and the pressure was building. The deadlock was finally broken after a series of short corners when Man of the Match Tim Bellamy fired into the bottom corner with the aid of a deflection off an advancing defender. This goal settled Leighton down and the team were beginning to show the qualities and commitment demanded by the skipper at the break.

Leighton were unlucky not to make it two goals in as many minutes when Bellamy deflected a pass from Warncken onto the bar from the edge of the D, with the keeper well beaten. With 50 minutes gone Ash Barnett forced a free hit on the edge of the D and Bellamy made it 2-0 having driven the ball into the D, before dispatching a drive beyond the reach of the keeper. In the final minute Leighton ensured that the points were going back down the A5 when Bellamy rounded off his hat trick by finishing with aplomb after some great build up with from Dave Hooker and Barnett to make it 3-0.

With another local derby against Aylesbury next week, Leighton will look to continue their winning streak back at Vandyke
