Wootton 1XI vs Leighton 2XI

Leighton 2s travelled to Wootton in Northants hoping to continue their winning run and move into mid-table security. Things started well with the ball being passed around the back and stretching the opposition. After a succession of short corners leighton broke the deadlock with Dave Jackson following up from a strike on goal. The backs of Oli Parren, Dave and Josh Wavish and Clive Warncken stemmed any attacks Wootton attempted until a loose hit was picked up and duly despatched beyond Jim Galloway. Leighton didn't sit back and further runs by Chris Marshall, Dave Hooker, Dave Canty & Stu Retford, lead to more short corners with many being won expertly by man if the match Fraser Retford. One of these was duly despatched by Dave Wavish firing a shot into the bottom corner. Halftime and Leighton led 2-1 expecting to continue the game in the same vain. Unfortunately it wasn't to be and too many wayward and blinkered passing put Wootton on the front foot scoring one goal from open play and three more from well-worked short corners. Leighton need to re-group and hope for a better result against Wallingford next week
