Leighton Buzzard men's 2XI vs Amersham 3XI
Leighton started the game slowly, with a lot of sloppy passes, which gave Amersham the opportunity to start stringing some good passes together. With Amersham pushing up the pitch with a lot of high pressure, it wasn't long before the opposition broke Leighton's defence.
Amersham 1-0 up, and continued to press forward leading to a lot of shots, were man of the match Jim Galloway in goal kept them out. Leighton knew they had to get their game going, so they pushed forward, taking the game to the opposition, and it wasn't long before Leighton ripped through Amersham's defence, with Stu Retford scoring from the back post.
Halftime and all square at 1-1. Amersham started the second half strongly, and it wasn't long before they got a short corner, were they cleanly despatched it to make it 2-1. Leighton once again decided to push forward, carrying a lot of possession and pressure to the opposition, leading to a lot of shots and short corners. It wasn't long before one of the short corner routines paid off, with some neat passes, where Dave Hooker carried on his run to the back post, and deflected the ball into the goal.
2-2 and game was in the balance, Leighton carried on with a lot of pressure, keeping Amersham pinned back in their own half, pass after pass, but not finding that final ball. Game finished 2-2 and with the rematch in two weeks, we will see who comes out on top.
