Aylesbury 3’s 2-1 Leighton Buzzard 2’s

Leighton Buzzard made one of the shorter away journeys to RAF Halton to begin their season against Aylesbury 3’s.
The Buzzard couldn’t have asked for a better start as they took the lead in the opening minutes with David Jackson smashing the ball home from the top of the D as a result of some good build up play from Team Retford (Senior and Jnr).
Leighton dictated much of the opening half with a high press which restricted Aylesbury to the occasional counter attack and the 2’s should have increased their lead if it wasn’t for the Aylesbury keeper with fantastic saves from a reverse strike from Craig Westley and Penalty flick save from Ash Barnett.
Going into the second half Aylesbury upped their tempo and pushed Leighton back making the game a much more even contest. Leighton battled well and were unfortunate to concede an equaliser midway through the half as Aylesbury drew level against the run of play from a short corner.
At the game drew to a close Leighton pushed hard for the win with several good chances not quite finding the net, this unfortunately was their undoing as Aylesbury were the team to find the winner as a result of a loose ball finding an Aylesbury player to slot home what was a scrappy goal.
Despite the disappointing 2-1 loss there were plenty of positives to take into the next fixture. Joint man of the match was awarded to Stu and Fraser Retford
