Finally get their first win

The 31st of October was the perfect date for the match between Leighton Buzzard 2s and Wallingford 3s, for the collection of ugly mugs out the pitch was truly scary. The sun was low, spirits were high, as Buzzards dominated the first half. It should have been 1-0 early on after Matt Nash dribbled round the keeper, shot to an open goal, only to be thwarted by a stretching defender. Soon after however, Dan Lambert passed the Captain David Jackson who slotted home to put the home team deservedly ahead.
Some excellent work from Clive Warncken and Josh Wavish ensured the domination persisted, piling the pressure on Wallingford. To double the lead, Matt Nash thundered through the midfield, taking it round members of both teams and struck from the edge of the D. After a few unsuccessful short corners, Tim Bellamy returned the ball to the injector, Jackson, who converted with style and grace. At half time, it was 3-0. It could have been 6. LeighBuzz 2s played some the best attacking hockey of the season.
The second half saw an entirely different game. The swapping of sides not only changed the direction of the sun for the teams, but also the momentum. Wallingford fought back doggedly, testing the mettle of the Buzzards’ defence. David Canty battle hard; and David Wavish seemed to spend half the game on the ground, cutting out passes at full stretch. Any time they won the ball and looked up the pitch for an outlet, all that could be seen was the sun’s searing streams, blinding them. Wallingford pulled one back. The last 10 minutes was worrying for the home team, Wallingford were playing with the energy of Sun God Helios himself! They pulled another back, but too little too late. It ended 3-2 to Leighton Buzzard; a much needed, and much deserved win. Man of the match goes to Clive Warncken.
