Mens 2XI v Newbury & Thatcham 3XI

Leighton Buzzard men's (2) 1 - 1 Newbury and Thatcham (3)

A 12 strong Leighton buzzard team lined up to face Newbury and Thatcham at Vandyke school.

The cold weather saw both teams eager to get the game underway for a 2pm pushback.

Leighton started strong with some good possession and early pressure putting N.T on the back foot, a string of Leighton attacks led to a flurry of short corners, Tim Bellamy thought he'd given Leighton the lead only to have his strike ruled out by the umpires.

Some great team play by Leighton led to more attacks with Ash Barnett closest with a shot a whisker wide of the N.T goal.

N.T soon found their feet, mounting some testing attacks for Leightons defence, Tim Bellamy found himself the last man after a quick break by N.T and used his body well to ensure their striker made it nowhere near the D but in doing so earned himself a green card.

0-0 at half time both teams came out fighting for the win, Leighton attacked well but Newbury fought back, some great play by MOM Stuart Retford and Leightons defence kept them at bay, but eventually they were awarded a short corner and converted well to make it 1-0.

Leighton continued to attack with more unconverted short corners, eventually they made a breakthrough after Craig Westley stopped the ball from going wide and pulled it back to Ashley Barnett to slot home the equaliser.

Energised by their goal Leighton pushed for the win, after some great team play and a link up between Ash Barnett and David Jackson in the final minutes the ball was crossed to Simon Childs who fluffed his lines, putting the ball wide when it was easier to score!

All in all a good game with lots of positives and another well earned point...
