Leighton travelled to Gerrards Cross in their first game back since Christmas. GX started the game strongly, bringing the game to LB, but it wasn't long before Leighton did the same to them. Leighton won a short corner, only for the returning ball to the injector to be missed. GX continued to press hard, with their youth and speed, and then they won a short corner, which they converted. 1-0 down and Leighton knew they had to up their game, and it wasn't long before LB scored from some great play from Craig Westley, hitting the ball in the D, which was deflected up for Ashley Barnett to smash into the net. 1-1 and the halftime whistle sounds.
Leighton continued to play the way they finished the first half, strongly. Winning a string of short corners, but to no avail, one missed back to the injector, one hit wide, but one did get back to the skipper David Jackson, where he flicked it over the diving keeper, only to hit a defender in the leg, a penalty flick was awarded, where Jackson steps up, only to scuff the shot towards the bottom right corner, where a wrong footed keeper just manages to get a foot to it.
It was a well battled game, end to end, but LB were a bit rusty in a game they feel they should of won. Player of the match was Marc Scott for his continued pressing forward and defending. Next week LB are at home to Amersham in a game they must win.
