Leighton see off bottom of the league.

Leighton looked to build on their draw last week when they hosted Amersham and Chalfont at Vandyke. Knowing the importance of the result against the team currently bottom of the league, Leighton made a frantic start and before they were able to settle into the game found themselves a goal down. Following a short corner, an Amersham forward found space and managed to squeeze a shot in at Jim Galloway's near post. A second for the visitors soon came as they benefited from Leighton turning off that left Galloway helpless. Leighton needed to remain calm and finally found some of the form they have been producing in recent weeks, with some quick, short passes resulting in a series of short corners. However the goal still would not come, until captain David Jackson beat a couple of defenders before finishing neatly into the bottom corner, leaving the keeper with no chance. This goal gave Leighton some much needed belief going into the half time break at 2-1.

The start of the second half was epitomised by end to end play, with Amersham looking to kill off Buzzard and the home team looking desperately for the elusive equaliser. Strong defending from Tim Bellamy, David Wavish, Marc Scott and Ollie Parren kept Amersham at bay, whilst Buzzard's midfield and attack continued to ask the opposition questions. Leighton then went down to ten men, when Wavish queried an umpiring decision following an injury to Bellamy that resulted from a questionable tackle from an Amersham forward. Rather than being put under pressure with a man down, Buzzard looked to take the initiative that continued once they were back to full strength. The equaliser finally arrived, with Methi man of the match Matt Nash getting the last touch in a goal mouth scramble, after Josh Gale's poked it towards back post. Buzzard with the wind in their sails knew the win was there for the taking. With three minutes remaining they managed to secure the three points in spectacular fashion when Nash slalomed his way through the Amersham defence before finishing with aplomb.

Having taken seven points from the last three games, Buzzard will look to continue their good recent form next week, away at third placed West Hampstead.
