Mens 2XI v Newbury & Thatcham 3XI

With Leighton starting the game with 6 changes from the week before & playing the early pace setters in division 5, they knew they were in for a tough game. Newbury started off the game in control of the ball and quickly the game became attack vs defence. To Leighton credit they managed to see out the first half without too many alarms other than a rightful green card for Craig Westley for a heavy tackle & a green for Oliver Parren for 'a little bit of chatter'. Both players respecting umpires decisions and going off. Half time came at 0-0. 2nd half begin in the same pattern as the 1st half with Newbury piling on the pressure and Leighton unfortunately conceding a penalty stroke for a unintentional block on the line by Stuart Retford. The protest by Tim Bellamy earned himself a green card which again was taken well and he jogged off for 2 minutes. Newbury scored from the resulting stroke and took the lead. The heat of the autumn sun started to really take its toll on Leighton who were down to 9 players due to a injury for David Wavish ad another green card for Mr Westley, this time not backing the full 5 yards away from a quick hit, again rightly accepted. Leighton then conceded 2 more quick goals and it could of been more if it wasn't for POM Jim Galloway heroics In keeping the score down. Final score 3-0
