Smash and grab

Leighton travelled to Marlow looking to put last week's performance behind them and get back to the way they played in the previous two games. From the start Buzzard tried to control the pace of the game through sharp passes cutting through Marlow on a number of occasions; however they were unable to convert any of numerous chances. Marlow came back into the game and started to push Buzzard back, but the defence of Tim Bellamy, David Wavish, Tom O'Reilly, Daniel Wright and Jim Galloway held firm. With the deadlock not broken at half time by either team, Buzzard knew that whoever got the first goal would likely win this tight encounter.

After a encouraging team talk from the travelling injured skipper David Jackson, Buzzard started the second half slowly and Marlow looked the more dangerous team but failed to create a clear sight of goal. During the course of the half Leighton's midfield Martin Bailey, David Hooker and Fraser Retford began to pick out the forward line with a number of through balls, especially Methi man of the match Joshua Farnfield who was easily the best player on the pitch. On his debut for the 2nd team, Stephen Fuller proved a constant threat with his electric pace sending shivers through Marlow's back line. He was unfortunate not to round off his performance with a goal, following a thorough ball from Bellamy, but Marlow's goalkeeper did well to narrow the angle.

With the clock ticking away and five minutes remaining, Buzzard pressed Marlow back with Peter Gale and Craig Westley forced an error for the Marlow centre back. After missing a sitter earlier in the game, Westley fired the loose ball into the goal on his reverse making it 1-0. All that was left, was for Buzzard to see out the game, which they did in an impressive and professional manner. This means that they go into next week's game against Gerrards Cross at Vandyke having taken nine points from the first four games of the season.
