Men's 2XI v Oxford 5XI

Leighton hosted the game against a mid table Oxford side, who had recently leap frogged them after last weeks defeat. Leighton were keen to get their game going straight from the off with Matthew Nash hitting just wide of the post. LB kept putting pressure on with Will Jenkinson and Fraser Retford linking up on the right hand side but Oxford were standing strong and countered quickly, winning numerous short corners but to no avail with Daniel Wright running straight at the hitter and blocking most of the shots, but on one occasion he missed one and that's were Oxford scored, narrowly going under keeper Jim Galloway and past Tim Bellamy on the line. 1-0 down and halftime comes.
Second half starts in a similar fashion as the first, with Leighton getting some short corners but no using them to their advantage. Leighton continued to press high, putting the opposition under a lot pressure and that's when Leighton scored, the ball worked really well through midfield with David Hooker hitting towards the d and managing to find Daniel Wright on the keeper and slotting it home. 1-1 and both teams threw everything at each other to get the win, and as Buzzard pushed forward, leaving a quick counter on for the opposition, which they did, only for Methi's man of the match Jim Galloway coming off his goal keeping line and run straight out of his d and smash the ball before the attacker knew what to do with it. Leighton pushed everyone forward, with LBs defence well in the oppositions half, and with that a great through ball found Craig Westley in the d, where he reverse hit it into the bottom corner for the winner. Game finished 2-1 to Leighton and with that they leap frog Oxford back into fourth. Leighton travel to West Hampstead 7s next week before the break for Christmas.
