West Hampstead 7s 0-0 Men's 2s

Leighton travelled with just 11 players to play West Hampstead 7's for the last game before the Xmas break with 5 regular players missing and no subs. With new players and a different formation for the first 20 mins Leighton struggled to make much of an impact but the defence of Stuart Retford, Will Riley, Marc Scott & David Wavish and gk Jim Galloway stood resolute with the only opportunities coming from a few short corners but the nearest they came was a flick heading towards the top corner only for it to be casually plucked out of the air by Wavish & away to safety. As the half progressed the midfield of Joshua Farnfield, Martin Bailey, David Hooker and Will Jenkinson started to take control and started to move the ball around and cause the opposition back. Opportunities were sparse with the nearest being a reverse hit from Simon Childs but straight at the keeper. In the second half the opposition seemed to drop off a bit allowing the forwards of Fraser Retford and Simon Childs to become more involved and cause them some worries. With five mins remaining all Leighton's hard work was nearly undone when a goal mouth scramble ended with Stu Retford saving on the line. Overall a draw was probably a fair result in what was an enjoyable game played in the right spirit - just as it should be. Mom is the whole team as everyone worked their socks off and did their part in the result
