Men's 2s v Phoenix & Ranelagh 2s
Injuries to squad cost the team all 3 points
Leighton Buzzard 2s 2-2 Phoenix & Ranelagh 2s
Leighton looked to improve on their last draw with only 10 men away to Sonning, but with another injury added to the squad, it was going to be a hard game. However Leighton started strongly and scored in the first minute, with a great through ball straight to Robin Lowth, who calmly put it into the bottom corner. The Buzzards continued to press the opposition high and with that forcing a short corner. Lowth pushed the ball to David Wavish, who smashed it towards the bottom corner, it looked to be going in and as all strikers do Lowth managed to get his stick on it and score Leighton's second. 2-0 and Leighton had full control of the game. Phoenix somehow managed to start getting back into the game, and create some good opportunities, Leighton were struggling to understand and cope with the opposition, from being on top to being under pressure, and that's when Phoenix scored two quick goals, just before halftime.
2-2 and the second half begins. Leighton started strongly again, forcing Phoenix back in their own half, and that's were Ashley Barnett got injured as the opposition cleared the ball, only to hit Barnett on the ankle. Barnett went off and David Jackson came on, this would be only his fourth game, as he got injured back in November. Leighton continued to press forward, creating chance after chance, with Tim Bellamy making some great runs through the heart of midfield, Lowth kept getting into the d, but couldn't get his head up to see Jackson free, who was unmarked on the p spot.
A great battled game, but Leighton knew they could of won it, had they put their chances away. Barnett's injury has put him out for three weeks or so, so another member added to the list of injuries is going to make next weeks game another hard one.
