Draw sees men finish 4th

In weather more akin to sitting by the pool Leighton traveled to Oxford knowing a point would be enough to finish a very credible 4th. However, with numerous changes to the team from the previous week and unaccustomed to the bouncy pitch, it was Oxford who struck first from a short corner. Unpeturbed by this Leighton started to get back into the game and it wasn't long before a cross from the left saw Tom Billington to dive full stretch and divert the ball into the goal. This encouraged Leighton to keep pushing forward and after numerous short corners one finally paid off. Joseph Giltrow pushing the ball out short to Sam Gale who crossed the ball in for Stuart Retford to divert into the bottom corner. Soon after Oxford then pulled the scores level again from another short corner. 2nd half underway, and with both sides rehydrated, there wasn't much to chose between the teams. But, from their first short corner of the 2nd half, Leighton restored their lead. Giltrow out to David Wavish to stop for Will Jenkinson to take a strike. It wasn't his best but found it's way through to Stuart Retford to once again divert into the goal for his 2nd of the day. Back came Oxford and from a short corner of their own the ball found its way to Josh Wavish, now playing for Oxford, to smash the ball home past his former teammates. With the ball going from end to end with great running by Josh Gale and Fraser Retford it was Leighton who again took the lead this time through Josh Farnfield managing to squeeze the ball in at the near post. Again Oxford fought back and despite continual good defending by the Leighton defence of Will Riley, Marc Scott, Stuart Retford, David Wavish and gk Jim Galloway Oxford pulled level again through yet another short corner. Jim tried to lie on the ball to force another short & somehow Oxford managed to pull the ball out from underneath him to lift it goal wards. Wavish did his best to keep it out but couldn't quite prevent it landing over the line. All in all an enjoyable game to finish the season with the final score of 4-4 and both sides happy.
Leighton finished 4th in division 5.
