2s up and running...following win in local derby
Three points from first game of season
Leighton's pre season success continued as they triumphed in the first local derby of the season!
New captain, new formation and some new faces to the 2nd XI, Leighton started brightly, forcing Aylesbury into silly mistakes early on. The pace of the new front 3 of Stephen Fuller, Dan Wright and Fraser Retford causing problems right from the off! All 3 going close early on but nothing finding the Aylesbury net; however Leighton finally struck gold when Wright won a free hit in the attacking 23, drove at Aylesbury defence, beating 3 players before firing a reverse strike into the bottom corner from the top of the D.
Leighton pressed for second goal and it only felt like a matter of time but nothing came of several brilliant balls in from Tim Bellamy and David Hooker! Leighton only had one minute of the half to hold on when following a scrappy short corner Aylesbury equalised when a wicked deflection ballooned beyond keeper Stuart McDonald.
Half Time: 1-1
Leighton dominated the second half winning free hits and a number of short corners none were to Leighton's success! But most of all they kept Aylesbury at bay due to solid work from the new back four of Liam Wavish, David Wavish, Will Riley and Tom O'Reilly. Leighton kept faith with the system and pressed for a winner. With just four minutes remaining, Fuller spun his marker and slotted under the keeper! Buzzard held firm for the remainder of the game finishing 2-1 and look forward to a tough game against West Hampstead on Saturday at Vandyke.
Full Time: 2-1
