Hard fought away point for Mens 2nd Team
Walking wounded secure another point in icy conditions
The relatively balmy weather of the week had gone and was replaced with an icy cold Siberian wind and snow but a resilient LBHC Men’s 2 side travelled to Marlow for an early pushback. The side was missing a few of the usual faces but they had been replaced by eager replacements including Finn Taylor being called up from the Men’s 4s side and he deserved every minute of the game and will hopefully be a permanent part of the team for the rest of the season and looking forward to next season as well.
After a long slow journey to Marlow due to weather and roadworks a very brief warm-up session was interrupted by the umpires wanting to start the match. Both sides started strongly with the ball being moved about quickly but the slippery conditions meant both sides were missing some relatively easy passes as they lacked confidence in the pitch to keep them on their feet. Leighton kept the pressure on in the first half and where rewarded with a short corner which was executed with a swift drag out by Fraser Retford (man of the match) and a clean strike by Captain Tim Bellamy to take Leighton 1-0 up. Leighton defence kept a couple of attacks out for the remainder of the half and so the score remained at half time.
A quick turnaround at half time was appreciated by both sides as the Siberian wind and snow had not relented. Again both sides put in a strong performance but a momentary lapse in communication by Leighton let Marlow back into the game who scored from a free hit just outside the Leighton D. The pressure was ramped up again by both sides both threatening one another’s goal a number of times, Marlow were awarded three short corners in fairly quick succession but all where kept out one miraculously by Bellamy who is still unsure how he managed it!
A fair result at 1-1 for both sides who sit next to one another in the league table. Man of the match Fraser Retford
