Buzzard hit the top following a great team performance at Sonning

Leighton travelled to Sonning for their annual late evening fixture in Reading. With the preceding game finishing late, Buzzard knew it would be a late one. However Leighton were wide awake from start, playing some sensational hockey - the passing and movement being of the highest quality. It was only a matter of time until Leighton made their dominance pay. Buzzard went one up following a move that involved all ten outfield players with Steve Fuller getting the assist when he squared the ball for Finley Bell Taylor to roll the ball into the empty net. The goal was so good that the home crowd applauded its quality.

Buzzard continued to pressure the home side by moving the ball quickly and with purpose. A second goal was only a matter of time and it duly arrived when Fuller finished followed some great work by Dave Jackson, Kevin Abranches and man of the match Matt Nash.

The rest of the first half was constant pressure from Buzzard with the scoreline being kept at two goals by some exceptional goalkeeping by Sonning's #1 with efforts from Damien Gledenning, Fuller, Bell Taylor and Clive Warncken keeping him busy.

Two goals up at half time, Buzzard knew Sonning would come out firing in the second half. Leighton soaked up the pressure and then took control of possession. A third goal soon came following a well worked short corner with Tim Bellamy laying the ball off to Nash who returned the ball into his path for the skipper to finish with aplomb.

Sonning got a goal back with their only shot on target following a short corner that took a deflection off Warncken and beat a stranded Dan Wright.

For the remaining 15 minutes, Buzzard were very professional and kept the ball well with Will Riley, Liam Wavish and Benji Robinson transferring the ball around the back, as they had all game.

With that the whistle blew and Buzzard now sit top of the table ahead of a local derby against Aylesbury next week at Fortress Vandyke.
