Leighton started the game in confident mood and on the front foot from the first whistle against local rivals Aylesbury. The movement from David Jackson, Finley Bell-Taylor and man of the match Steve Fuller was causing their defence problem and it was only a matter of time until the deadlock was broken.
After a series of short corners, Tim Bellamy struck his shot to the near post where Jackson nicked in in front of the defender to finish. A second soon followed with some exquisite passing between Damian Glendenning, Matthew Nash and Fuller finding Jackson in space for him to squeeze a shot in from an impossible angle. Two nil up and cruising, Leighton should have made their superiority count but Bellamy was denied in the dying minutes of the first half by a goal line clearance.
Buzzard came out in the second half determined not to give Aylesbury a sniff; the defence of Liam Wavish, Will Riley and keeper Jim Galloway had little of note to do. With the wing backs of Tom O'Reilly and Clive Warncken continuing their runs a third goal was just a matter of time and duly arrived in the last minute when Martin Bailey and Glendenning were involved in a goalmouth scramble with Glendenning getting the final touch.
Not Leighton's best performance of the season but another three points and puts them clear at the top of the league. Buzzard travel to third placed Marlow next week where their promotion credentials will be further examined.
