2nd Team back to winning ways after break

Leighton were back in action after the winter break, looking to start the new year with better result than they left the last. They started well against Ealing, probing well however not being able to make the most of their chances in the final third. The deadlock was broken just before half time when Tim Bellamy's drive bobbled past everyone to the unmarked Steve Fuller in the D, who slotted it past the keeper. 1-0 at half time.

The second half Leighton started much like the first had finished, with Leighton dominating possession and tearing the opposition apart. Hard work around the D resulted in multiple short corners, one of which was bouncing around, resulted in David Jackson lifting the ball towards goal. The goalkeeper was unable to handle this and could only push the ball into the defender and for this to sneak over the line, meaning Leighton doubled their lead. A strong midfield performance from Bellamy, Laurence Leech, Martin Bailey and Clive Warncken ensured the pressure continued and paid off, with Fuller finding Chris Bourne at the back post to turn the ball in expertly through his legs. Leighton weren't finished though, and good work down the right from Tom Handley found Bourne at the top of the D, who's drive was deflected in by Fuller. The defensive back line of David Thompson, Handley, Liam Wavish, Will Riley and Fraser Retford had stood strong and defended excellently all game but were made to work for it, as the last 5 minutes Ealing tried to find a consolation, but strong defending and a couple of clearances off the line ensured their well deserved clean sheet was maintained. The 2's welcome Eastcote next week, looking to gain momentum after this solid win.
