Leighton Mens 3s win a 7-1 thriller

Leighton Buzzard arrived at Staines with a slightly changed team with debuts for Steve Fuller and Jacob Townson. The Buzzards started brightly with Alex Brindle slotting in after 2 minutes. Staines recovered from their initial shock and started to attack with purpose although they rarely got into the visitors 'D'. This was due to the hard work and discipline of Marc Scott and Olie Reid. When Staines did get past them, Chris Walter was solid in central defence, ably assisted by Tom O'Reilly and Pete Marshall. Goalkeeper, Dave Thompson, only had to make one save in the 1st half. Towards the end of the first half Leighton's passing game began to tell with Kane Sanders and Steve Fuller rampaging down the sides and Stuart Hart down the middle getting the ball to Alex Brindle and Pete Gale. Alex managed to get his second goal after 30 minutes, but also managed to pick up a yellow card a few minutes later.

The second half started with Leighton having 10 men but with crisp and accurate passing they kept Staines under pressure. Alex had just come back on when he got involved in a move that ended with Kane scoring. Debutant Jacob took over from Steve on the right with Steve going up front. The pair combined well with Alex to get the ball into the 'D' and soon Alex had his hat trick. Staines pushed hard but still could not play their way into the 'D' relying on long balls hit directly in. One of these got a lucky deflection off a Staines stick that gave Dave in goal no chance. After an hour Steve Fuller's constant running finally got him a goal. He managed to stop long enough to pick his spot and slide the ball home. With 12 minutes to go Pete Marshall went off with a slight back strain. Jacob Townson substituted as left back and did a good job in helping to keep Staines at bay. This allowed Pete Gale to come back on up front where he soon scored Leighton's sixth goal. This was followed shortly after by Kane's second to complete the 1-7 win.

Kane Sanders was voted Man of the Match although it was very close as the whole team played well.
