Maidenhead 4s 0 v 1 Leighton Buzzard 3s ( match abandoned)

Leighton again fielded a changed side. We knew it would be a tough fixture against a very good Maidenhead side and Leighton were ahead when the game was abandoned due to the pitch icing over ( game started at 16.15). The story of the game is easily told. Maidenhead started off strongly and Leighton were under pressure as some players settled down into new positions. Gradually after 10 minutes Leighton started to get control of the mid field and put pressure on their defence and that pressure turned into a strangle hold with Maidenhead finding it increasingly difficult to get out of their penalty area. Around the 25 minute mark Leighton were awarded a penalty corner which was saved but resulted in a second one. That too was saved. However the third one saw Nick Marshall received the ball at the top of the area and push it back to Stuart Hart for him to convert for Leighton's goal. From then till the end of the half it was all Leighton.

The second half started, as we knew it would with Maidenhead applying a lot of pressure but Leighton held them and began to push back. However the elements were against us and in somewhat confused circumstance the game was called off as it was considered too dangerous to carry on with the edges of the pitch beginning to freeze over, although Leighton were not far from that point in the game, time wise, where the score would have stood if it was then abandoned. So the point in writing about an abandoned match? Well it is to record probably the best TEAM performance of the Men's 3s so far this season. Stalwarts of the Men's 3s like Pete Marshall the skipper, Chris Walter, Stuart Hart, Andy Barton along with others such as Oli Parren, returning from injury, new to the squad such as Alex Hewitt and others all made it a great away performance that deserves to be recorded.
