Amersham & Chalfont 4s 5 - 2 Leighton's 3s

A much changed Men's 3s side turned out to play Amersham & Chalfont 4s in what turned out to be the inaugural match on their new Club pitch so we knew this was going to be a difficult one to win. From the start Amersham pushed and put the Leighton defence under pressure but Leighton held and then around the 10th minute Andy Barton unleashed a long ball into the Amersham half where it was pushed on by Oli Parren to Steve Fuller using his speed to put one past the goal keeper. Leighton's joy did not last long. A much speedier Amersham started to show their paces and Leighton seemed unable to clear their lines properly and the ball kept coming back into Leightons half. The changes from last week's game started to show and the pressure mounted with Amesham scoring 3 goals in relatively quick sucession and very little in the way of attacks from Leighton to go down 3-1 at half time.

The second half started better for Leighton with a stronger defensive attitude and more attacks but with most falling apart when they got anywhere near shooting range of Amersham's goal. Again the changes in the side showed up to Leighton's disadvantage with some poor passing, stopping and positioning. After a sustained period of pressure toward the middle of the second half, and despite some sterling work in defence by Chris Walter and Andy Barton, Amersham scored their 4th. From the restart Leighton pushed and in a rare moment of team fluidity Steve Fuller scored his and Leighton's second. But back came Amersham roared on by and ever growing crowd of supporter to put their 5th past Leightons goalkeeper. If the Men's 3s are to be a force to be reckoned with in the Division, and they can be, they need more stability in the team.
