Well after their successes of the last few weeks Leighton Men's 3s came down to earth with a crash. A much changed side ( whenever hasn't it been a much changed side) came across an interestingly strong Eastcote team flying high in the division. Leighton worked hard throughout the game but having no subs and being under constant pressure from what was at time a very physical Eastcote side meant that by the end there were some very tired legs.
The story of the match is easily told. Almost from the off Leighton found themselves under pressure and were three goals down in the first 15 minutes and although Leighton's forwards did penetrate the Eastcote area the attacks were easily thwarted. Two more goals in quick succession meant Leighton were 0-5 down at half time.
Leighton rallied in the second half and held Eastcote at bay for the first 10 minutes but tiring legs led to tiring minds and the laps in concentration increased with too many misplaced passes. The inevitability leading from this was three more goals (including a penalty that was almost saved). Whilst Leighton never gave up the pressure was unrelenting and the team were pleased to hear the final whistle and not to have gone down to a double digit defeat!
This defeat, due in part to the never ending change in personnel, has damaged the Mens3s chance of promotion - probably the only Men's team with such a chance.
