Fledglings lose away at Ramgarhia Slough

Ramgarhia Slough 4 - 1 Leighton Buzzard Fledglings

The Fledglings started their league program with a difficult away fixture at promotion favourites Ramgarhia Slough. With a new line up the Fledglings took a little while to find their rhythm and Ramgarhia took advantage with two well-taken goals. However three moments of quality helped Leighton close the gap: Sam Gale won the ball just inside the opponent's half and with skill and determination ran the ball into the "D" winning a short corner; Josh Wavish's subsequent strike was heading for the corner of the goal but was kicked off the line and a penalty stroke was awarded; Man of the Match Stuart Retford dispatched the penalty and Leighton had the momentum.

The remainder of the half was close but Ramgarhia finished strongly and restored their two-goal lead with a flicked shot that Leighton were unable to prevent from crossing the line.

The second half was again close, with chances at each end. However Leighton's defence were excellent picking off the attacking play and looking to break forward, typified by Retford's superb interceptions and forward driving runs. As the half ended Leighton were just on top and close to scoring a second but with 30 seconds to go Ramgarhia broke away and sealed the win with another well taken shot. A good game, played in a great spirit and despite the loss encouraging signs for the Fledglings.
