First home game results in a win for the Fledglings.

Leighton Buzzard Fledglings 8 - 0 Ashford 4s

The Fledglings enjoyed a comfortable win against a determined opposition, who kept battling through until the final whistle. From the start David Jackson and Samuel Gale took control of the midfield for Leighton, which created the platform from which Leighton attacked. The breakthrough came, midway through the half, when Gale's drive from the top of the "D" powered into the goal. Shortly after Leighton scored a second when Sam Gale's pass created an opportunity for Peter Gale to direct the ball into the bottom corner of the Ashford goal. 2 - 0 at half time.

The second half was characterised by neat and purposeful interplay that created chances for Leighton and wore down a tiring Ashford side. Henry Mead, linked well with his fellow defenders and also left wing Freddie Silva, whose powerful running and striking constantly threatened the Ashford goal. Leighton's third goal came when Peter Gale smacked in Steve Baker’s well hit cross from the right wing. After that goals came at regular intervals. Reece Cook showed great composure scoring from another Sam Gale assist. The fifth goal was a short corner, drilled in by David Wavish, soon followed by Peter Gale's third. A great run and finish by Sam Gale made it seven before David Jackson completed the scoring, getting the final touch following a storming run and far post strike by David Wavish, another well deserved goal.

This was a very pleasing display by the Fledglings, Fraser Retford and Hugh Hatt-Lipscomb worked hard for the team and Dave Thompson was rock solid in defence but special praise goes to Henry Mead, who on his debut was joint player of the match.
