Fledglings draw at Tring 3s

Tring 3s 0-0 Leighton Buzzard Fledglings

The Fledglings had a frustrating afternoon with a good performance but a disappointing result. Leighton had the better of the first half with well-worked efforts from Will Giltrow and Laurence Leech both going close. Leighton also worked hard to create short corner opportunities but credit to Tring who defended these with skill and determination keeping the Leighton efforts away from their goal.

The Fledglings put the opposition goal under severe pressure for the whole of the second half. Stewart Angell in the Leighton goal did not have a shot to save as Leighton dominated. While Stuart Retford drove the team forward, the Leighton wide players, Hugh Hatt-Lipscomb, Henry Mead and Owen Crossan competed for the ball and worked hard as Leighton’s tactic of pressing high up the field so nearly worked.

Though Leighton kept their opponents pinned back deep in their own half, and had the majority of possession in a crowded last 25, the Fledglings could not get that vital goal. Leighton kept going but in the end Laurence Leech’s double strike, which was well saved, and a short corner that was deflected wide of the post by the keeper’s outstretched leg, were the closest that Leighton got to scoring.
