Credit for the Fledglings in narrow defeat to league leaders.

Leighton Buzzard Fledglings 0 - 2 Ramgarhia Slough 1

The Fledglings produced a creditable display in a close game but ultimately lost to the better side. Ramgarhia arrived as undefeated league leaders but it was Leighton who enjoyed the better of the early exchanges. Terry Cavender and Joshua Wavish were involved in all of Leighton's best play as they worked hard to get hold of the midfield.

Twenty minutes in, the game was interrupted by a hail storm and after that break it was more even. However throughout David Thompson was excellent in defence, reading the play, making well timed tackles and playing the ball forward and this measure of control at the back helped Leighton get to half time, reasonably comfortable at 0 - 0.

The game remained a close contest but it was Ramgarhia who slowly began to gain the upper hand. After a series of short corners it was the Slough team who made the breakthrough, when a well struck short corner just eluded the Leighton defence, making it 1 - 0 for Ramgarhia. With 10 minutes to go Leighton threw caution to the wind and went all out to get a goal back, pushing debutant Joseph Giltrow up front to try and catch the opposition on the break.

As Leighton poured froward they inevitably left gaps and with two minutes to go the Ramgarhia team crafted a great goal, thumping in a unstoppable strike from a narrow angle on the left.

So although the Fledglings unbeaten run came to an end, this result marked the improvement in the team this season. Having lost to Ramgarhia Slough by a bigger margin on the opening day. We have narrowed the gap between the teams and overall we enjoyed a great game of hockey against a very good team. It was another game played in a great spirit and both sides appreciated the umpires, excellent throughout, who kept the game flowing in difficult conditions.

Final score: 0 - 2 Leighton lose, Ramgarhia Slough win
