New Fledglings line-up gains valuable experience against tough opposition

Leighton Buzzard Fledglings 0 - 4 Berkhamsted & Hemel Hempstead 4s

The Fledglings started the season with an encouraging display against an older, wiser and stronger opposition.

With six new players, the Fledglings tried out different structures and rotated players and positions. Strong play saw the visitors take the lead midway through the first quarter but as Leighton grew stronger they started to create chances to get back into the game.

The second and third quarters were more even and Leighton were a little unlucky not to get more from the short corners they won. However Leighton's young team tired in the fourth quarter and Berko capitalised with three well-taken goals.

The better side deservedly won. But with the score line slightly flattered them. Special mention to Stephen Farrell who was excellent in goal, to Adrian Gotzheim whose powerful hitting and passing turned defence into attack and to Chris Marshall whose surging runs were so nearly rewarded with a goal, which the Fledglings deserved on the day.

Final score 0 - 4 Leighton lose, Berkhamsted & Hemel Hempstead win
