Fledglings earn friendly win against St. Albans

Leighton Buzzard Fledglings 3 - 0 St. Albans 8s & Centurions

Unbeaten in February, the Fledglings started the game confidently and were rewarded early on with a well worked opening goal. Jordan Field and Joshua Farnfield interchanged passes at a short corner and then crossed to the far right of the goal, where an unmarked Tony Farnfield raced in and slammed the ball home for Leighton's opener.

In a close fought game, Matt Franklin's superb range of passing created the better scoring opportunities for the home side. Franklin's near post pass looked destined for Matt Carter to score but Field nipped in first, deflecting the ball into the goal, to double Leighton's advantage. Leighton battled hard to increase their lead but excellent St. Albans' keeping kept out Carter and Peter Gale’s best efforts.

The second half started with Leighton knowing that they would have to work hard to maintain their lead. Player of the match, John Field, defended expertly throughout and that enabled the Fledglings to attack on the break. Joshua Farnfield in particular attacking the St. Albans’ defenders with pace and skill.

With fifteen minutes remaining Leighton sealed the win. Another short corner saw Jordan Field strike across the “D” and Gale deftly guide the ball up into the goal between keeper and defenders. Another really good game between these two sides, with Leighton just edging it.
