Fledglings fall to league leaders Amersham

Leighton Buzzard Fledglings 2 - 3 Amersham & Chalfont 4s

The Fledglings came up short against the league leaders Amersham but emerged with credit for their second half display.

The visitors took the initiative and scored from their first short corner reacting quickest after keeper Alexander Dashwood's initial save. Leighton tried to regroup but the more experienced opposition gained the upper hand with two more well taken goals and were three nil up inside twenty five minutes.

However a resilient Fledglings then started the fight back. Matt Cater picked up the ball and from thirty yards out ran at the defence. Turning his player "inside out" he closed in on goal and forced the ball home on the keeper's near side.

Leighton changed their team set up and they knew that if they could win the second half then they would be in with a chance. And mid way through they pulled another one back when Adrian Gotzheim drilled a short corner strike through the Amersham defenders.

Amersham were still playing well and chances were few. Player of the match, Jacob Murtagh was chasing and hassling the Amersham team and his efforts lifted the Fledglings side. Determined play by Reece Cook saw him drive the ball across the "D" from the right and his cross was met by a "flying" Joshua Gale whose full-length dive saw his touch go agonisingly wide.

It was Leighton's last chance, beaten by a better side but with lots of positives emerging from their second half performance.
