Hard fought win for Fledglings

Leighton Buzzard Fledglings 3 – 1 Maidenhead Mystics

The Fledglings, started off their league campaign with a hard fought win against a talented Maidenhead side. Though Leighton’s play got stronger as the first half progressed, it was the visitors who took the lead with a well taken strike on the reverse side.

In the second half the Fledglings gradually gained the ascendancy. After a succession of short corners Alex White found the net to equalise with a well-directed drag flick. With ten minutes to go the Fledglings went ahead. Great work down the right by Joshua Farnfield saw the ball played into, player of the match Kane Sanders. Sanders beat a defender and crossed for Ken Mounter to calmly finish and wildly celebrate his first goal for the club.

The result remained in doubt until the last minute, when Leighton enjoyed some good fortune in the “D”: a pass across goal was deflected into the net, sealing the win for the Fledglings.
