Maidenhead Mystics 2 – 0 Leighton Buzzard Fledglings
The Fledglings endured a frustrating evening against a very competitive Maidenhead side.
With both sides getting used to the cold conditions, the first half was even. Joint player of the match Jordan Field was strong in defense and Leighton created a few early chances. However, the Maidenhead keeper was in excellent form and kept out goal bound strikes from both Peter and Joshua Gale. All square at half-time.
Despite starting the second half confidently, if was the home side that took the lead. They won the ball in centre of the pitch and drove forward forcing the ball home. Leighton continued to play their passing hockey but Maidenhead pressed well and gave the Fledglings little time on the ball. Midway through the half, the Mystics doubled their advantage with a well taken reverse strike.
Leighton upped their intensity for the final fifteen minutes. Joint player of the match Tom Billington, displaying great determination, drive and energy. Joshua Farnfield came close with a short corner strike and Joshua Gale’s follow up shot was inches over the bar. Leighton weren’t getting the run of the ball and it was not to be. Credit to the home side for their deserved win. Unlucky to the Fledglings, who will play worse than today and win.
