Staines 4s too strong for Fledglings as home side lose

For the second time this season the Fledglings were well beaten by the divisional leaders Staines. The visitors scored first from a well executed short corner. The Fledglings then had chances to equalise, strong running by Tom Billington created opportunities for James Trumper and Matt Carter, that they were unlucky not to convert.

After that minor scare Staines took the game away from Leighton, expertly scoring from their next three short corners, leaving the Fledglings with a huge task to get back into the game.

The second half started poorly for the home side who went down to ten, following a yellow card, and shortly after conceded a fifth from open play. Leighton rallied and a resilient display, lead by joint man of the match, Terry Cavender, kept Staines away from the Leighton goal. At the other end of the pitch Leighton threatened the Staines goal, joint player of the match, James Trumper was Leighton's main attacking threat. But overall the team missed creating clear cut opportunities with some poor decision making in and around the "D". Staines finished the scoring with two minutes to go. A tough result for the Fledglings but one from which they will have learnt a lot.
