Positive performance, disappointing result

Though beaten by the better side on the day, the Fledglings put in a good performance, with the younger players in particular playing with great maturity. Much of the first half was even but as half time neared Aylesbury took the lead with a composed finish. Soon after, the home side thought they had scored a second but determinedly Tony Farnfield got back to clear; unfortunately the ball deflected onto Tony's foot and Aylesbury were awarded a penalty flick. However, they were denied by another outstanding save from goal keeper Daniel Koolman, watching the ball he moved to the left saving confidently with his pads.

Leighton started the second half positively, with Stephen Fuller's strong running always a threat and Chris Bourne doing great covering work down the right hand side. Jordan Field was resolute in defence, working well with midfielder Jacob Townson they combined to get the ball forward as Leighton looked to equalise. Their excellent play earning them the, joint, players of the match. Now enjoying their best spell, the Fledglings went close, with two powerful short corner strikes from Adrian Gotzheim.

With ten minutes to go Aylesbury got a break through. At a short corner, play was allowed to carry on following a "swing and a miss", and in the resulting confusion an Aylesbury forward fired the ball home. Leighton then stretched the play out, in search of a comeback goal. Howard Gregory's shot went narrowly wide and a further Leighton effort was cleared off the line with the keeper beaten. However it was Aylesbury who sealed the win, another smart finish making the final score 3-0 to the home team. While Aylesbury merited their win, the final score was a little harsh on Leighton, who nonetheless will take many positives from this game.

Final score: 0 - 3 Leighton lose, Aylesbury 4s win
Player(s) of the Match: Jordan Field and Jacob Townson
