Unable to hang on to the lead Fledglings have to settle for a draw against fast paced Wycombe 6s

Leighton Buzzard Fledglings 1-1 Wycombe 6s

The Fledglings ended the year with their best result of the season so far. Starting brightly the home side won the first short corner and then began to create chances with Craig Westley, Luis Acosta and Peter Gale all going close.

Chris Bourne, making his first appearance in goal was confident and assured and defensively Leighton looked very solid. Ash Pead, working hard in central midfield, picked up the pace and along with player of the match Hugh Hatt-Lipscomb put the Wycombe side under continued pressure. Hatt-Lipscomb won the ball in the Wycombe twenty-three and passed to Gale, whose shot on the turn beat the advancing keeper for Leighton to take the lead.

However, with only eleven players the Fledglings tired in the second half. As the opposition kept fresh with regular substitutions Leighton started to get sloppy and lose their passing rhythm. Wycombe finished the stronger side and equalised with ten minutes to go. So an encouraging result for the Fledglings, yet disappointing because the win was there for the taking: missed chances in the first half proved to be costly in the end.

Final score: 1 - 1 Draw
Player of the Match: Hugh Hatt-Lipscomb
