Leighton started the game strongly, enjoying lots of possession and moving the ball around well. They created a number of chances but were unable to break through the West Herts defence. The home team took the lead towards the end of the half against the run of play with a scrappy finish. Leighton nearly equalised just before the break when Gabbie Avola’s well executed shot hit the post. West Herts put the Leighton defence under pressure in the second half and scored again twice with two well taken goals. Goalkeeper Rachel O’Connor pulled out a brilliant diving save knocking the ball round the post with her stick to prevent a 4th goal. Leighton continued to fight back with player of the match Lauren Avery working hard in midfield to try and find a break through but it wasn’t to be.
Leighton now face Saffron Walden at home next Saturday.
