Ladies 1's 6 - Pottersbar 1
First league win for ladies 1's
After last week’s win, Leighton ladies went into their first league game looking to start their promotion campaign from the get go.
Facing Potters Bar who were relegated from the east division 2 seasons ago and looking to also secure their way back to East; it was never going to be an easy game.
Leighton started fast with a high tempo putting extensive pressure on the Bar defence but just lacked that last decisive pass to secure the goal. 15 minutes in, with the sustained pressure from the Leighton side saw the Bar defence break and the Leighton forward line seized this opportunity to exploit the space created; using one touch passing from their own half too score two goals in quick succession.
Shortly into the Second half bar recovered a goal to bring the score 2-1 and started putting pressure on the Leighton defence. Leighton held strong and rather than becoming defensive they utilised the opportunity to counter attack Bar.
Player of the match Riley Brown scored two brilliant goals, working hard off the ball to create space and then keeping great composure in front of goal to slot home past the keeper. Adding to this Sweeper Clare Fitzboydon found herself in the attacking D and smashed home a belter to make it 5-1. Captain Hollie Taylor put away the last goal of the day which was set up by Katie Jackson.
Next week the ladies will be facing local side Bedford at home with a 2pm push back.
